BIG BOOST FROM THE BIG LOTTERY FUND FOR 1ST COBHAM SCOUTS CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

1st Cobham Scout Group has today been awarded a Grant of £ 7,436.00 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All Programme to help celebrate their 100th Anniversary at a special community event.

The Group is very proud that Cobham village was an early adopter of the Scouting Movement started by Lord Baden-Powell in 1907, and will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary on Saturday 11th September 2010 at Painshill Park as part of Cobham Heritage Day.

Comments Pat Berton, Chairman of 1st Cobham Scout Group, “We are delighted in this special centenary year to join with Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust and Painshill Park, to offer our community an event that stretches from the Mill on the River Mole (for the duck race), through Church Street – full of arts and craft stalls, across the Leg of Mutton Field – with displays of vintage cars, buses, steam engines and the Cobham Garden & Horticultural Association Autumn Show, ending in the beautiful 18th Century landscape gardens of Painshill Park – where a host of free activities including: a Falconry Display; Pioneering Display; Orienteering; Pond Dipping and Mini Beast Safari, sponsored by 1st Cobham Scout Group with their Big Lottery Fund Awards For All Grant will entertain young and old alike.”   Entry to Painshill Park is free, as part of the Heritage Open Days Programme.

The Group are also promoting the children’s section of the Cobham Garden & Horticultural Association Autumn Show with categories for all ages, abilities and interests including photography, recycling, home baking and fruit and vegetable growing! 

On Sunday 12th September 2010, a Commemorative Service will be held at St Andrews Church at 3.00pm, where any Cobham Scout – past or present, including their families will be welcome, followed by afternoon tea and scones at the Scout Hut.
